SEBRING –– The Sebring American team was the favorite heading into the Dixie Youth Pitching Machine District 8 All-Star tournament at Max Long Recreational Complex. After going undefeated through the six team, double-elimination tournament, Sebring American proved they were the best squad by blasting Okeechobee American 14-7 on Sunday afternoon to win the district championship and a berth in the state tournament in Paxton. "I'm so proud of all the kids because they worked hard and earned this championship," said Sebring American head coach Eric Lewis. "We've got twelve tough kids that make good baseball decisions. "They were steady in all five games we played and the way we swung the bats and played defense was outstanding." ...more

AVON PARK –– The Lake Placid baseball team showed both sides of the two-headed monster against Lake Region on Wednesday. Through the first four innings, the Green Dragons played solid, fundamental baseball, showing the possible potential that lies ahead this season. The final three innings, however, were marred by costly errors and a rash of cold bats that saw the regression of that potential during Lake Region's 9-2 victory over Lake Placid in the Bill Jarrett Early Bird Tournament at Head Field. Lake Placid head coach Dan Coomes said he admired his team's performance, and he understands they need to play the good teams if they're to improve this season. ...more
