AVON PARK –– Panther Field is a lot like Wrigley Field when the wind is blowing out –– you can expect a high-scoring game. The South Florida Community College baseball team took advantage of the windy conditions to pound out 21 base hits on its way to a 20-8 win over the Tampa University "B" team in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. The second game was rained out. "We play in a small yard and when the conditions were like they were, the ball has a chance to travel a long ways," said Panther coach Rick Hitt. "We were fortunate to get some balls up in the air and they got out of the park." ...more

WINTER HAVEN — A string of free passes came back to bite the Panthers yet again. The Polk Community College baseball team scored four runs off seven walks to defeat South Florida Community College 8-1 at Viking Field on Wednesday. "We were very undisciplined at the plate," said SFCC head coach Rick Hitt. "We never got it going on offense, and [Polk's] pitching staff did a great job against us." Austin Gaines scored the Panthers' only run in the first inning off a fielder's choice by Steven Levine and managed just six hits against the Vikings. ...more

AVON PARK — The South Florida Community College baseball team had a lead as late as the sixth inning, but a Seminole grand slam and missed opportunities at the plate were enough for Seminole Community College to pull off a 7-2 victory over SFCC at Panther Field. The Panthers (0-3) pitched well most of the game, according to coach Rick Hitt, but timely hits were tough to find: SFCC left six baserunners stranded in the final three innings and nine runners on the night. ...more
