This election cycle, all voters will be "on their mark" using the new legislative-mandated optical scan voting equipment that replaces the touch-screen voting machines. Voters will mark paper ballots they feed through optical scanners before exiting the polls. Technology has changed the way political campaigns are run, according to several local politicians, candidates and party officials. Chuck Oakes, state committeeman from the Highlands County Republican Party, said that the Internet made a major impact on political campaigning.
