BRANDON -- A developer is asking Hillsborough County to approve plans for intense retail and residential uses on 26 acres near Falkenberg Road and Interstate 75. I-75/Palm River Road LLC, which lists Lawrence Bailin of Tampa as the registered agent in state filings, is requesting a modification to a planned development that would allow 200,000 square feet of retail and 400 multifamily residential units in an area the county has designated for up to 35 units per acre. ...more

SEBRING — Forty percent of Florida's greenhouse gases come from tailpipes. So cities, counties and the state need to plan better, says Charles Gauthier, director of community planning for the Department of Community Affairs. "Is there a way we can work with rural land stewardship to get people out of their cars?" asked Gauthier, who spoke Tuesday at the statewide Rural Tourism & Economic Development Summit in Sebring. People keep coming to Florida, Gauthier said, so the need to manage the demand for travel continues too.
