America's educational system is a mess. We have students slipping through the cracks, failing to perform and flat out getting through without possessing the basic knowledge they need to succeed. It has become a tradition of sorts for each new president to address this issue with a nationalized plan for reform. On Feb. 21, the Gasparilla Distance Classic Association, C.E. Mendez Foundation and University of Tampa hosted the 19th running of the Too Good For Drugs Jr. Gasparilla Distance Classic at the university's Art & Polly Pepin Stadium. The event is for children ages 2 to 10, and rather than being a competition, the run focuses on participation and education. Every child received the number 1 as their race number, a race packet full of goodies, a Too Good For Drugs Jr. Gasparilla Distance Classic Race T-shirt and, after crossing the finish line, a Finisher's Medal.
