ZEPHYRHILLS -- The city appears to have lost its battle to keep two-way traffic on Gall Boulevard. The Florida Department of Transportation is planning a $70 million widening project, starting in 2015, but the design would convert Gall, also known as U.S. 301, into a one-way street for northbound traffic. All southbound traffic would be diverted to Sixth Street, which already is one-way. Both streets eventually would be widened to three lanes. ...more

As anyone who has lived in West Pasco a long time knows, when it comes to making U.S. 19 less of a pain to drive on, nothing is ever easy. That appears to be the case again as the Florida Department of Transportation looks to ease traffic flow along the congested six-lane section of the highway in West Pasco by adding a pair of right-turn-only lanes to it. ...more

County officials today cleared the builders of State Road 56 to work round-the-clock as they rush to finish the first leg of the road in time for the Oct. 30 opening of the Shops at Wiregrass mall. County Administrator John Gallagher and the Development Review Committee OK'd a 24-hour-a-day schedule for a 10-day period starting in mid-September. Crews will be laying asphalt for the six-lane road, said Jim Richardson, vice president of Forest City Enterprises, one of the companies involved in the road project. Forest City is overseeing the section of S.R. 56 that passes in front of its 800,000-square-foot outdoor shopping plaza. ...more

only beginning. Wesley Chapel road projects dominate the latest list of highway construction scheduled to kick off between this fall and early 2013. The project roster will go before a public hearing at 10 a.m. today when the Metropolitan Planning Organization, the county's transportation planning agency, meets at the historic Pasco County Courthouse in Dade City. MPO director Doug Uden said the list ensures a given project will get state or county funds during the five-year window for anything from preliminary engineering to construction.
