I am quite shocked by the fanfare that President-elect Obama has received for his plans for change. Just in the last few days the newspapers have reported the costs of these programs will be upwards of $1 trillion. After nearly eight solid years of Bush-bashing for the outgoing president's spending, how can any self-respecting adult do such an about-face and endorse expenditures of this magnitude and at such a financially insecure point in this nation's history? ...more

Here's a sobering thought that nobody seems to be raising: If we had followed the plan to privatize Social Security by investing in Wall Street securities, then this week's meltdown of our financial system would be eating up the retirement plans of millions of seniors.
