The 2009 West Pasco observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. birthday holiday will echo President-elect Barack Obama's call to make it a national day of service. •Katie Robinson, commander of Veterans Village American Legion Post 343 and the American Legion Service Officer at the New Port Richey VA Outpatient Clinic, received a special award at the Annual Volunteers Award ceremony held by the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital. Robinson received the President's Call to Service Award for volunteering 4,369 hours to the clinic. She has visited the clinic once a week since it opened in 1985. Robinson also has four veterans in local nursing homes for which she tries to help with their veteran benefits. ...more
