New Port Richey gallery presenting religion and mystery

From East to West, from ancient times up to the present day, artists have been inspired by their belief systems, producing images more varied than the gods they portray.

An artistic pantheon will be on display as Progress Energy Art Gallery, 6231 Grand Blvd., presents "Myth, Mystery and Religion," with an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2.

Among the pieces featured will be Justin Giacobbi's watercolor work, "Final Revelation: Seraphim's Last Stand," a collage of images that contains both religious and personal meaning.

Eva Berman will debut her spiritual works at this show. A native German who was raised in Bavaria, Eva came to the United States in 1967, Berman has painted extensively over the years, graduating with honors from St. Petersburg College in 2004.

Pastel artist Natalie Roberts will offer mythological paintings of goddesses. A self-taught artist who has developed a unique method of soft pastel work; goddesses and women in repose are favorite subjects. She often stages her compositions then works off photographs taken by her husband, Brian. An example of their photo-to-painting collaborations will be on display.

Samantha Churchill, who studied in Cartona, Italy, and has shown extensively throughout Florida will share her colorful paintings of goddesses.

Lyndon Josef Bronislaus Scheeren explores religious themes with his intricate watercolors. Scheeren has exhibited and won numerous awards locally and his works are represented in art collections around the world.

Also in the exhibition are works by painters Mimi Jozwiak, Elizabeth Cardina, Jorge Perez-Rubio, Alex Giraldez and Jeff Svajklenka, as well as sculpture by Sergio Vittorio Flores.
