HUDSON - Turn off the television or videogames, get off the couch and "Get Outside," water district officials encourage Pasco County residents.
A free event, "Get Outside," is planned for Saturday, Nov. 7, on a section of the Starkey Wilderness Preserve.
Officials of the Southwest Florida Water Management District, which owns the preserve, are promising "family-friendly activities," according to Robyn Felix, a SWFWMD spokeswoman.
Guided nature hikes, "I Spy" scavenger hunts, a native plant raffle and more festivities are planned from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Plenty of fresh air will greet participants for the event at the Serenova Tract, a 6,533-acre parcel within Starkey Wilderness Preserve.
The entrance to the property is located along S.R. 52, one mile west of the Suncoast Parkway on the south side of the road, across from Hays Road, Felix explained.
Getting outside is a fun, easy and low-cost way to spend time with friends and family, according to water district executives.
The agency tends to more than 343,000 acres of land in the 16-county region it regulates from its Brooksville headquarters. About 2.5 million people each year visit public conservation lands within the water management district.
