WESLEY CHAPEL - There is still time to sign up for Gulfside Regional Hospice's third annual Hike for Hospice on Sunday, Nov. 8, at the Wesley Chapel District Park at 7727 Boyette Road.

Participants will get to see Mike Alstott, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers player, who will be on hand to launch the Hike for Hospice.

Bay News 9 anchor Leigh Moody will lead the closing ceremonies and memorial balloon release at the end of the event. Since its inception in 2007, Hike for Hospice has raised more than $200,000 for Gulfside. Organizers hope for more than 500 hikers this year.

Many West Pasco supporters are expected to take part in the 5-kilometer event or the 3.1-mile walk. Gulfside operates a Hospice House, 6230 Lafayette St., New Port Richey, and Gulfside Center for Hospice Care at Trinity, within Trinity Regional Rehab Center, 2144 Welbilt Blvd., Trinity.

All proceeds will be designated for patients and their families facing life-limiting illnesses in Pasco County, as well as support programs at Gulfside's Hospice Houses and Bereavement Centers.

"Hike for Hospice is designed to celebrate and honor the lives of friends and family members," Linda Ward, president and CEO of Gulfside Regional Hospice, said in a press release. "I walk in memory of my father, who passed away in Gulfside's care. The Hike is for people just like you and me - who want to honor the memory of a loved one and make every day count for those facing a serious illness."

Sponsors help defray costs to stage the event so more money goes to Gulfside's patients, Ward explained.

Premier sponsors are J. Rolfe Davis Insurance and W.G. Mills Inc.

Corporate sponsors are Enclara Health, BB&T Bank, O2 Solutions, Trinity Regional Rehab Center and Grille 54.

Participating sponsors are BMK Architects, Bouchard Insurance, Rose Radiology, TradeWinds Beach Resort, deChant Public Relations, Hal Paul Enterprizes, Morton Plant North Bay Hospital, Madison Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, the Menkes Foundation, MedFleet, Williams, Ristoff & Proper, CorE Fit, PAETEC and Utopia Home Care.
