New Port Richey sent out letters stating it was going to charge homeowners more than $2,500 to repave their streets. At its April 28 meeting, City Council approved Councilman Bob Consalvo's motion to have the city pay 65 percent of the cost and the residents 35 percent.
Our city leaders already knew they were going to do this because the precedent was already established.
So why did our leaders send out those letters and scare the residents? Why didn't they just state in the letter the residents would only have to pay 35 percent?
What happened to all the CRA money? The "c" meaning community.
It was just scare tactics. Now that residents feel better about the paving project, our city leaders are going to raise taxes and fees.
The city needs the money to maintain the status quo.
