This is regarding your recent news article on U.S. Rep. Virginia Brown-Waite's visit to Hudson High School, during which she said of President Barack Obama, "As an American I want him to succeed." In find this troubling. Normally a reliable conservative, it appears that despite her independent past Brown-Waite is capable of being cowed by political correctness.
Which of the president's policies would she like to see succeed? Infringement of gun rights? Higher taxes on the productive members of society? A potential bailout of the Europeans? Welfare disguised as tax rebates so Democrats can solidify their power for the next 50 years? Amnesty for illegal aliens?
Or how about subservience to the UN treaties Republican and Democrat presidents have rightly ignored over the last 20 years?
Obviously, Brown-Waite was responding to the now-popular question "Do you want the president to succeed?" Given her audience, I hope she answered as she did to avoid a complex explanation of why she would not want the president to succeed.
If not, then she has become just another lost GOP operative who finds the tempering of principles preferable to telling the truth.
