Chasco Fiesta '09 Under Way

NEW PORT RICHEY - Blast the recession, full speed ahead on fun!
That was the spirit permeating the 2009 edition of Chasco Fiesta during its opening night Thursday.
The festival, which takes place in and around Sims Park in downtown New Port Richey, runs through March 29. Some 30 nonprofit community groups rely on the money raised during Chasco to fund service projects. The Stock the Shelves food drive was added to this year's lineup.
The fiesta continues today, Saturday, with the annual street parade, starting at 1 p.m. The parade traditionally attracts throngs of tens of thousands to the streets of downtown.
