I am a senior just getting by on a fixed income. I cannot afford a computer, cable TV or cell phone. I would love to have a cell phone for emergencies. So when I saw an ad on TV for the government-supported SafeLink Wireless program, I checked into it.
I am not eligible, of course, because my income is just a little over its required limit. If I were on Medicaid or got food stamps or other government assistance, however, I would be eligible for a SafeLink phone.
I realize many people have hit hard times and need government help. But I also know many who are just coasting along, letting the government take care of them.
I'm thinking it will irritate me the next time I'm in the supermarket and I see someone gabbing on a cell phone while paying for his or her groceries with food stamps.
Am I unreasonable? I don't think so.
