Popular Suncoast entertainers are set to join forces to perform the songs of one of America's favorite composers.
Richey Community Orchestra will present "The Songs of Richard Rodgers" on Sunday, March 15, in New Port Richey.
Singers James Demetrius, Nancy Scott, Jason Yungmann and Randi Hoidalen-Olsen will interpret some of the songs Rodgers composed during his show business career that spanned almost five decades.
Rodgers composed the music for more than 900 songs and 40 Broadway musicals. He and composer Marvin Hamlisch are the only two people to have won an Oscar, Grammy, Emmy, Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize.
Some of Rodgers' most popular music arose from his partnerships with lyricists Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein.
Actor, director, singer and set designer James Demetrius will perform "Soliloquy" from the 1945 musical "Carousel." In the musical, one of the lead characters, Bill Bigelow, sings the song when he first learns he is to become a father. Demetrius has been a familiar, award-winning presence in the area theater world for more than 30 years.
A Brooksville-based actress and singer, Hoidalen-Olsen is no newcomer to Rodgers music. She has previously had starring roles in Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals "South Pacific" and "Sound of Music."
She is looking forward to her New Port Richey appearance. "All your favorite songs from Rodgers and Hammerstein will be included," she noted.
Nancy Scott previously starred as Anna in the Richey Suncoast Theatre production of "The King and I" and has had other roles in Tampa Bay theaters. She is a Tampa resident.
Jason Yungmann rounds out the quartet of singers. He has appeared in musical variety shows at the Show Palace Dinner Theatre, in Hudson, and the Richey Suncoast Theatre, in New Port Richey. When not performing, he teaches middle school in Spring Hill.
Karl Beaudry and Robert Boyd will conduct the 50-piece orchestra in selections from "South Pacific" and "Victory at Sea."
