The Mustangs (7-1) are Pasco County's top team with a third of the season out of the way and will be looking to rebound from its first loss. Class 6A, District 7 rival Alonso High stayed unbeaten with the 5-3 win last Thursday.
Contrastingly, Ridgewood (2-6) has not won a game since its season-opening tournament at East Lake High.
Mitchell is playing all-around solid baseball right now. Led by Florida-commit Patrick Schuster on the mound, the Mustangs' rotation owns a 1.26 team ERA and is allowing opposing batters to hit only .138. Offensively, slugger Matt Hart has belted three home runs, driven in 14 RBI and is hitting .545.
Ridgewood senior Jay Mattos is guiding the Rams once again in the dugout and on the field. Lack of depth among those toeing the rubber has burnt Ridgewood during its six-game losing skid. Mattos and his paltry 1.05 ERA will try and keep Mitchell's bats at bay.
Wednesday
Land O' Lakes at River Ridge
River Ridge (5-3) enters Wednesday's District 5A-7 game against Land O' Lakes (5-1) with an opportunity to make some serious noise in the standings. The Royal Knights are coming off a tough 2-1 loss against Central on Friday, but have been one of the more surprising teams this year.
Land O' Lakes look poised to take another district title and a win over River Ridge will boost its district record to 4-0. The Gators' only loss came on Thursday to one of Tampa's best squads, Jesuit High.
Friday
Ridgewood at River Ridge
Depending on the outcome of Wednesday's River Ridge-LOL showdown, this one could be extremely important for the Royal Knights. They beat Ridgewood 1-0 in the teams' first meeting.
Softball:
Tuesday
Gulf at Zephyrhills
Gulf (5-6) is a young bunch with the potential to win on any given night. The Buccaneers and Zephyrhills (5-4) are each hovering around the middle of the nine-team District 4A-8 standings.
Wednesday
Land O' Lakes at River Ridge
The Lady Knights will be taking on Land O' Lakes on the softball diamond as their male counterparts square off with the Gators' baseball team a short walk away. River Ridge (7-1) can take a percentage-points lead in the District 5A-7 standings with a win over the undefeated Lady Gators.
Thursday
Gulf at River Ridge
Gulf will have its hands full against in-town rival River Ridge. A win for the Bucs would be a nice resume addition alongside their earlier Nature Coast Tech victory.
Friday
River Ridge at Mitchell
This matchup between West Pasco's two best teams typically produces memorable finishes. While not a district game, it will factor in largely come SAC championship time.
