NEW PORT RICHEY - Stormy weather and not bacterial contamination will be the main concern of anyone thinking of going to a Pasco County beach today.
The Pasco County Health Department announced Wednesday afternoon its has no advisories in effect for any of the county's beaches after its latest round of testing for bacterial contamination usually associated with fecal pollution.
In the wake of the June 29 testing, its previously issued advisory covering Gulf Harbors Beach has been lifted, the Health Department said.
Since August 2002 the Health Department has been testing the water at Pasco beaches once a week for signs of enteric bacteria. Enteric bacteria can be an indication of fecal pollution from sources such as storm-water runoff, pets and wildlife and human sewage.
The Health Department uses criteria established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency when evaluating whether a beach should be closed because of bacterial contamination.
