HUDSON - Pasco shelters will be open over the weekend since temperatures could drop below freezing tonight and Saturday night, the Pasco County Office of Emergency Management has announced.
Low temperatures and stiff winds from the north could combine to produce wind chill values in the 20s for both nights, according to National Weather Service forecasts.
Precautions should be taken now, Lisa Hale of the Pasco Office of Emergency Management advised in a press release Friday.
The release suggests: pets should be brought indoors early in the evening; plants and vegetation sensitive to cold weather should be protected; home heating systems should be checked to ensure they are in working order; people should wear several layers of clothing while outdoors.
The release also urges people using radiant electrical space heaters to ensure flammable materials are moved away from the heater.
