Encore Academy Offers Workshops At PHCC

NEW PORT RICHEY - The Encore Academy at Pasco-Hernando Community College will offer a variety of enrichment workshops beginning this month on the New Port Richey campus, 10230 Ridge Road.

Choices include Internet Activities, Historical Eras, Artistic Design, Beginning Computers, Sign Language, and Gizmos and Gadgets, according to Courtney Boettcher, marketing coordinator at PHCC.

Internet Activities will cover introduction to genealogy, introduction to the Internet, basic e-mail, introduction to eBay and more. The next session is 1 - 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23. The workshop will be offered 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 18, Feb. 25, March 12 and April 15.

Historical Eras will delve into firsts in history, ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, renaissance art and Native Americans. The Monday sessions are 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 26, Feb. 2, Feb. 9, Feb. 16 and Feb. 23.

Artistic Design will focus on drawing, rubber stamping, acrylic painting, calligraphy and Plein-Air, or outdoor, painting. The workshop is offered 1 - 3 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 26, Feb. 2, Feb. 9, March 9 and March 30.

Beginning Computers will explore Internet, basic e-mail, Microsoft Word and more from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays from Jan. 28 until Feb. 25.

The basics of sign language will be taught 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays from Jan. 29 through Feb. 26.

Gizmos and Gadgets will give tips about hardware, software, peripheral devices, viruses and spyware protection 9 - 11 a.m. Fridays, Jan. 30, Feb. 6, Feb. 13, March 20 and March 27.

The registration fee for these workshops is $40 each and includes five two-hour sessions.

All workshops are open to the community. Membership in the Encore Academy is not required.
