One of the great challenges for our leaders is the mortgage crisis. I have been a collections professional for eight years and have done almost every aspect of collections.
During a conversation with my pastor, the Rev. Dan Campbell of Holiday United Methodist Church, who is president of the Homeless Coalition of Pasco County, I came up with the idea of holding a mortgage seminar.
Here is where one of our elected officials impressed me with actions instead of words.
After I contacted the office of state Sen. Mike Fasano he called me back after only two hours.
I expected to speak with one of his aides. Sen. Fasano suggested I contact Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink for help with the mortgage seminar.
She replied to a letter I sent her and one of her assistants contacted the Rev. Campbell.
I went to Sen. Fasano's district office to talk about the seminar and some others concerns I had. While I was talking to a secretary he came out of his office to talk to me. It wasn't a long conversation but it impressed me.
So did his signed response to a thank-you note I sent him.
In my experience this personal attention from an elected official is the exception.
