Hurricane Watch Tournament Is This Meeting's Backdrop

PALM HARBOR - This is the championship finals matchup most would have expected heading into the 2009 Palm Harbor University Hurricane Watch Soccer Tournament.
The host team's nemesis, East Lake, advanced after Wednesday's 3-1 beating of Northeast. The Eagles were the only team to finish a perfect 2-0 in group play.
PHU got a hand from Mitchell High to ensure its trip to the finals. The Mustangs edged Lakewood 1-0 in the day's opening match.
Friday will be the fourth time this season the two Class 5A, District 9 rivals meet head-to-head. East Lake holds a 1-0-2 advantage over the Hurricanes thus far.
The championship game will be played at 8 p.m. Beforehand, District 6A-7 foes Mitchell and Countryside clash for third place.
MONDAY:
Countryside and East Lake hit the turf for Monday's opening game. The Eagles prevailed 2-1 thanks to goals from Nick Patterson and Matthew Kimball.
The night cap featured a surprise result as Lakewood came back to tie host PHU 3-3. The Hurricanes were ahead 2-0 after 40 minutes but could not hold the lead. Brandon Shaneyfelt, Ryan VanSchaick and Matthew Tobin each scored for PHU.

East Lake 3, Northeast 1
