I have a compassionate heart and try to help out the less fortunate when I can.
But one day I stopped to give some money to a woman who was holding a "Will Work For Food" sign. When I handed her the money she asked me: "Do you have any more? I almost have enough to buy six hits of Vicodin." Vicodin is a prescription narcotic.
I was appalled and wondered if I was doing the right thing. That is a shame because now I will think twice before I give money to a homeless person begging on the street.
Am I really helping or am I merely contributing to that person's drug or alcohol problem?
