NEW PORT RICHEY - The Pasco County Parks and Recreation Department is looking for a few good rangers.
The current corps of seven volunteer park rangers have logged more than 1,200 hours of patrolling, assisting visitors and providing information, according to Frederick J. "Rick" Buckman, Pasco's parks and recreation director.
The group obtained donations for a storage shed and eight new or used bicycles, Buckman said.
With the program established, the group wants to expand.
The county department hopes to recruit up to a dozen more rangers, Buckman said, along with donations for communication devices and more uniforms.
"This volunteer program fills a need of which our full-time staff cannot always fill because our staff is often times busy with day to day operations and maintenance," Buckman wrote in a message. "We have received favorable comments from a number of park visitors" about the rangers.
