The IRS could make a lot of points (money) if it sent all of its auditors to Washington, D.C., to audit the tax returns of all the government workers.
Over recent years there have been reports that many of the civilian workers in the government do not file a tax return. Recent news indicates that even potential cabinet members failed, forgot or just ignored their tax obligations.
So, have the IRS spend their time in D.C., save travel expense and do an audit that will yield taxes, interest and penalties. The results may even yield more honest tax returns from the general public, which has been less than complete on its Form 1040s.
