NEW PORT RICHEY - Photographers can win cash prizes in a photo contest being conducted to show off Pasco County's parks, native birds and landscapes.

West Pasco Audubon Society is sponsoring the Natural Florida photo contest. It has an April 1 entry deadline.

Ken Tracey, Audubon president, explained the three categories:

Natural Florida - Showing natural settings, landscapes or animals photographed in Florida. No people or structures.

Native birds - No feral or undocumented Florida birds nor birds in captivity.

Pasco parks - Showing birds, animals, landscapes, but no people, structures or equipment. The park location should be indicated on back of the photo.

Each category will offer a grand prize, Tracey said. A panel of judges will select the top photos.

A Peoples Choice Award is available in each category. People who attend the April 4 Audubon program will vote on these awards.

Judges will pick the top photo from a student for a Best in Show award.

Winners will be announced at a 3 p.m. April 4 program at the Starkey Education Center in Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park.

Prizes will come from 70 percent of the entry fee monies collected and divided equally between the seven winning categories.

Entry fees cost $5 per photo for the first five entries. The fee is $4 each for 6 to 8 photos. For nine or more photos, the fee is $3 each. Students can enter up to three photos for free. Make checks payable to: West Pasco Audubon Society.

Photos must be 8 by 10 inches in size and mounted on a firm backing. No front matting or markings will be accepted. The photographer's name, address and e-mail or phone number must appear on back.

Entries should be mailed to: K. Tracey, 5662 Fieldspring Ave., New Port Richey, FL 34655. In addition, entries can be dropped off at the Starkey Education Center at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 7.
