TRINITY - Beyond passing out cigars after a baby is born the role of a new father pretty much has been overshadowed.
But now comes "Boot Camp for New Dads," a training class offered before that bundle of joy arrives.
While babies don't come with instruction manuals, the three-hour course on March 7 probably is the next best thing.
Morton Plant Mease Outpatient Center-Trinity is offering the course from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its facility at 2102 Trinity Oaks Blvd. The cost is $25. To register call 727-462-7500.
Fathers-to-be can learn important tools of parenting at the class, according to Anna Allen, media relations coordinator for Morton Plant Mease Health Care.
Participants learn about holding, comforting, burping, diaper changing and dressing their infants.
The class is taught by veteran fathers who share their personal experiences in bonding, managing work hours, forming a parenting team, safety, preventing child abuse, and relationships with relatives.
Boot Camp for Dads is one of three new classes offered at Morton Plant Mease Outpatient Center-Trinity, Allen said.
Childbirth preparation is offered each month, with the next class set for 9 a.m. March 21. A newborn care course will take place 6:30 p.m. March 10
