Here is why President Barack Obama is at risk of being an ineffective commander-in-chief: He chose to run on an antiwar, antinuclear platform. In addition, he has refused to give credit to our honorable troops continuing to wage the war on terrorism by not giving credit to the successful "surge" strategy they followed in Iraq.
Just days after being sworn in Obama ordered the closure of the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Another serious blunder was his recent termination of the CIA's authority to interrogate a group of brutal terrorists.
Equally troubling is the president's decision to ignore Defense Secretary Robert Gates' plea to update our aging stockpile of nuclear weapons. Furthermore, he has said we can't pursue a nuclear weapons upgrade without more testing.
Gates has disclosed that this situation is fundamentally "bleak." If we are to defend the U.S. from possible nuclear attack from North Korea, Iran, China or even Russia, we cannot allow our nuclear deterrent to erode.
There is always hope that the president will listen.
