PORT RICHEY - When municipal elections take place in Pasco County next month the mayor's seat and one spot on the City Council here will be on the ballot.
For those interested in running for either position, the qualifying period to submit the necessary paperwork for the April 14 city election begins at noon this Tuesday, Feb. 10, and ends at noon Tuesday, Feb. 17.
That's a pretty short window of opportunity, though standard, and would-be candidates should note this time around, it's even shorter than it looks.
As a cost-savings method, City Hall recently shifted to a four-day work week. Its hours of operation have expanded on Mondays through Thursdays, and are now from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. But City Hall is now closed Fridays, which means candidates cannot file paperwork Feb. 13.
Monday, Feb. 16, is also out, as City Hall will be closed for Presidents Day.
In Port Richey, the mayor and City Council members are elected to two-year terms. Qualifying papers and information are available at the City Clerk's Office at City Hall, 6333 Ridge Road, or by calling 727-816-1900, ext. 107.
