NEW PORT RICHEY - Growth Management Administrator Sam Steffey recently earned praise as he prepares to retire after 31 years serving Pasco County.
Commissioners formally recognized the longtime public servant as Steffey got a standing ovation from the audience, according to a county press release.
Flanked by family and friends, Steffey said it had been his pleasure to serve commissioners and County Administrator John Gallagher.
Steffey began his career as a planner in the department in 1978. He quickly moved up the ranks and Gallagher promoted him to growth management administrator in 1991.
During his tenure, he received a number of awards and accolades, including a certificate of appreciation from the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council and an Award of Excellence for his department.
"His dedication to Pasco County, his mentoring and accessibility to his staff and co-workers, his good-natured demeanor, positive attitude and his overall presence will be sorely missed by all who have had the pleasure of working with him," the county proclamation read.
