Another brutal attack on another woman in another West Pasco subdivision. In response, the neighbors are shocked and the community becomes a bit more vigilant. Headlines grab our attention and conversations shift from "American Idol" to those headlines for a moment.
There were similar headlines stunning the community 20 years ago. Another woman was brutally attacked. Those headlines led to the formation of Enraged People Against Rape. EPAR was co-founded by a woman who stood above the conversation and led the community and politicians to action that changed the way Florida reacts to violent crime against women and children.
What we must focus on now is the survival of the latest woman who was attacked – her survival, not her victimization. Her example should teach us all that if one woman can survive, then we as a community owe it to one another to join the survival and use our energy for positive change. We need a heroic community.
