The American Red Cross has begun the process of assessing damage caused by the strong storms that moved through the Suncoast on Tuesday morning.
Anyone who needs assistance may contact the Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross by calling 1-877-741-1444, the relief agency announced Tuesday afternoon.
Red Cross Disaster Action Response Teams are providing assistance to those who need emergency shelter, food or clothing.
According to the Red Cross, preliminary information suggests most of the damage from the storm was associated with a tornado or tornadoes that struck Pasco County.
A number of houses and stores in the Seven Springs-Trinity area were damaged by a tornado that one witness said "sounded like a locomotive" as it swept past the Chelsea Place shopping center, on Seven Springs Boulevard.
The Red Cross, however, is also investigating reports of damage in the East Lake area of northeastern Pinellas County.
A woman at the Chelsea Place shopping area said she lived off Keystone Road in the East Lake area and had driven up into Pasco County to take photos of the damage for her Facebook page and find the source of the power outage at her home.
