Going home at Hernando-Pasco Hospice

Published: April 8, 2009

NEW PORT RICHEY - People who have lost loved ones do not have to suffer in silence.

That was the message at the recent Time for Remembrance observance at Hernando-Pasco Hospice's Marliere Hospice Care Center at 6807 Rowan Road.

People of all ages shared their memories of relatives who have died or departed friends. Elderly residents participated alongside mothers with children or younger adults.

Tom Beason, the manager of spiritual care at HPH, helped lead the people who attended the "Going Home" service. Chaplains and bereavement counselors also gave comfort to the participants.

A highlight of the ceremony let people "cross over into a circle in the center of the tent," according to the program. Each person then placed a stone in honor of his or her loved one in a water trough. The trough represented a man-made "river" that figuratively built a bridge to the other side and a sense of community.

The hospice also invites residents to join a bereavement group which meets 1 to 2 p.m. Thursdays at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church, 7922 S.R. 52, Hudson. Call toll-free 1-800-486-8784 for information.
