NEW PORT RICHEY - Gusty winds up to 25 knots could not stop the 2009 Progressive Air/Carrier Chasco Fiesta Boat Parade last weekend.
That was a good thing for the Clearwater-Tarpon Springs R.V. Campground because its entry in the aquatic parade along the Pithlachascotee River earned the $2,500 grand prize, according to Brent Simon, chairman of the event presented by the New Port Richey Rotary Club.
A band played on the float "Elton John and Friends." The lead singer, dressed as Elton John, sat at a red piano sitting inside a pink Cadillac. The float also won the Battle of the Bands trophy.
Other boat parade awards went to:
For-profit
1st Place - $300 Meadow Lane Surgery Center for "Yellow Submarine."
2nd Place - $125 Braybrook Assisted Living Facility for "Grease."
3rd Place - $75 Ker's Winghouse for "The Village People."
Nonprofit
1st Place - $300 Rotary Club of Trinity for "Wizard of Oz."
2nd Place - $125 Port Hudson Fishing Club for "Family Fishing & Safety."
