NEW PORT RICHEY - A public forum Wednesday, Oct. 1, will help determine if the former Baptist Church property along Orange Lake might be converted into a Performing Arts and Cultural Center.
The City of New Port Richey's Cultural Affairs Committee is hosting the forum at 6:30 p.m. at the city library at 5939 Main St.
The city bought the property last year after the Baptist church relocated to a facility on Trouble Creek Raod.
Committee Chair Lia Gallegos said a private entity would have to operate a cultural center, not the city. Investors, developers, community leaders, philanthropists and other parties would have to take an interest in the project.
A 2006 state study has shown the arts to be a major economic contributor. Go online to http://www.florida-arts.org/FloridaArtsCouncilVisi... for information.
