Published: September 24, 2008

NEW PORT RICHEY - The annual Cotee River Bike Fest is sure to rev up excitement among motorcyclist enthusiasts, organizers hope.

The two-day weekend event is coming fast on Oct. 11 and 12, event coordinator Dan Sullivan reports. West Pasco Chamber of Commerce plays host again for the fourth annual festival, centered on downtown New Port Richey.

Highlights include the 50-mile Pasco Sheriff's Charities Bike Ride on Sunday, Oct. 12.

In past years, the Bike Fest has attracted thousands of motorcyclists from about every walk of life represented. Indeed, the presenting sponsor, the Law Offices of Attridge, Lucas, Green, Magee, and Magazine, reflects the evolving image of motorcycle owners.

In 2005, former New Port Richey Mayor Dan Tipton and former City Manager Scott Miller, card-carrying riders of the Harley Owners Group, decided they didn't want to HOG all the fun. They helped ignite plans for the inaugural Bike Fest here, which is open to all brands of motorcycles and customized rides imaginable.

This year's event will feature live music on both the State Farm Boulevard Stage and Sims Park Stage. Bike vendors will set up booths with the latest in apparel and items for motorcycles

Other activities will include a Live Bike Build by Eric Warren Designs, Full Throttle Ride-In Bike Show, Tattoo Contest, Daisy Duke Contest by Eberbach Plastic Surgery, Pull Your Heart Out Fire Truck Pull hosted by the New Port Richey Marine Institute, merchandise vendors and food sales.

"After the success of this event for the past three years, we are very excited for our area to be hosting this event for the fourth year," Chamber of Commerce President Joe Alpine said in a press release.

Sheriff's Bike Ride

The 50-mile Pasco Sheriff's Charities Bike Ride on Sunday, Oct. 12, will start at Gulf Coast Harley Davidson shop at 5817 S.R. 54, New Port Richey and wind its way to the Bike Fest downtown.

Registration starts at 9 a.m., with motorcycles rolling out for the ride at about 11 a.m., according to Sheriff's Office spokesman Doug Tobin. Fees are $25 per rider and $15 per passenger. Registered participants will receive a T-shirt, collectible pin, a southern-style breakfast and entrance to the Bike Fest that day.

Advance registration will be Oct. 4-5 at Gulf Coast Harley Davidson or at the Bike Fest on Oct. 11.

Proceeds will benefit the Angelus, a home for severely handicapped adults in Hudson.

Pull Your Heart Out

Teams will compete for the fastest times to pull a 20-ton fire truck across the finish line at the ninth annual Pull Your Heart Out on Saturday, Oct. 11.

The event benefits the New Port Richey Marine Institute which works with at-risk children.

The pull with register and weigh teams at 9 a.m. at the intersection of central Avenue and Circle Boulevard. The competition cranks up at 10:30 a.m.
