TRINITY - The Longleaf community recently received two "green" development awards and a new conservation-based certification.
These honors came on the heels of the Florida Green Building Coalition's designation of Longleaf as the county's first overall "green community" earlier this summer.
The latest acknowledgments Longleaf garnered are the Grand Aurora Award and the Outstanding Florida-Friendly Community Award.
The Grand Aurora was presented in the category of "Green Construction," among an array of other classes within the realm of conservation and sustainability. The award was presented to Crosland LLC, the real estate firm developing the final phases of the community off S.R. 54.
Builders, developers, architects and others are recognized yearly at the Southeast Building Conference, which encompasses a 12-state region.
The Florida Yards and Neighborhoods program, administered by the University of Florida, was the source of the other award. According to the Florida Yards and Neighborhoods Web site, the program "encourages homeowners and professionals to create and maintain Florida-friendly landscapes that protect the natural environment around us for future generations to enjoy."
Before deciding on an Outstanding Florida-Friendly Community Award winner, Florida Yards and Neighborhoods analyzes criteria such as storm-water runoff reduction in yards, decreased water pollution, water conservation, soil health and enhancement of wildlife habitats and conservation of native Floridian flora and fauna.
Additionally, Longleaf's Oak Park model home, built by Cardel Homes, has gained green certification from the Florida Green Building Coalition and Energy Star, the government-backed program designed to promote energy efficiency.
