NEW PORT RICHEY - Two sisters will represent West Pasco at a national pageant after winning top honors at the state level.
Keisha and Michaela Abelgas, the daughters of Ryan and Katherine Abelgas, recently received recognition from the Pasco County Commission for their accomplishments.
In the first pageant she competed in, Keisha was crowned queen of the 2008 National American Miss Florida Preteen Pageant.
A fourth-grade student at Deer Park Elementary School, Keisha won first runner-up for the casual wear modeling category and first runner-up for the best resume category.
Keisha received a crown, banner, trophy, modeling scholarship to John Robert Powers Modeling School and $1,000 cash award.
Michaela, a seventh-grader at River Ridge Middle School, competed against 170 other girls from across Florida to be named to the Queen's Court as first runner-up at the pageant.
Michaela received cash prizes and trophies for winning in the Best in Casual Wear Modeling, Best Actress and Best in Spokesmodeling categories. In addition, she was first runner-up for Miss Photogenic.
Michaela also received the Spirit of America Award from Pageantry Magazine.
Both girls were invited to compete in the National Pageant to be held in November in Anaheim, Calif.
