Art Guild To Hold Interactive Painting Party

NEW PORT RICHEY - Palettes, paint brushes, canvases, oil and acrylics; a creative nature and a sense of imagination. These are tools of an artist that haven't changed in centuries.

The West Pasco Art Guild will throw an interactive "painting party" and demonstration at which a new acrylic paint will be introduced from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5. The guild's downtown gallery is at 6206 Jefferson St.

The "painting party" will introduce Atelier Interactive Professional Artists Acrylic, an acrylic paint that gives the artist control over drying time that traditional acrylics do not provide.

Acrylic paint is a fast-drying paint containing color pigment suspended in an acrylic polymer emulsion. Acrylics are diluted with water, but become water-resistant when dry.

Interactive Professional Artists Acrylic was perfected in 2005 by Jim Cobb, owner of Chroma USA, an international company that has been providing creative solutions for artists for more than 40 years.

The formulation of the paint allows the artist to develop a piece quickly and allows time to blend and rework the painting. The process permits more creative freedom because it gives control to the creator during the painting process with "wet over dry" and "wet-in-wet" painting techniques.

With traditional acrylics once the paint dries it forms a hard shell and "locks" out the painter from altering the artwork.

Interactive acrylic dries over time from the "wet" stage to a "sticky/tacky" stage to what is called a "touch-dry" state prior to becoming fully cured. Once the touch-dry stage is "unlocked" utilizing the unlocking formula it allows the artist to continue working.

All three stages lets the painter work the paint by simply re-wetting or dehydrating the paint while giving time for blending, feathering or edging the color or shapes already on the canvas. The touch-dry layers can even be unlocked or re-opened after several days.

By gaining access to the process it gives extended time for working and blending techniques. Perfect for artists who specialize in plein air (painting outside), portraiture, mixed media, representation and large format pieces of artwork.

Interactive acrylics are available in 75 colors that dry to a satin-like finish without a plastic look.

The morning session will be conducted by teaching artist, John Gibson, self-described computer geek, who discovered his creative talents after being trained by famed TV artist, Brenda Harris.

Gibson is a certified artist of Brenda Harris.

Chroma USA approached Gibson while he was teaching acrylics at the Creative Painting Convention 3 years ago in Las Vegas. Gibson is a Winter Park resident who travels the United States teaching acrylics, as well as Interactive Professional Artists Acrylic.
