NEW PORT RICHEY - Turnout of voters appeared heavy during the first day of early voting on Monday for the Nov. 4 general election.
By 1 p.m. Monday, the Pasco Supervisor of Elections Office had counted 1,862 early voters, with long lines of people still waiting to cast ballots.
The line of voters snaked down the hallway of the West Pasco Government Center in New Port Richey and outside the front doors.
In addition, the elections office had received as of Monday 17,970 absentee ballots to be counted on Nov. 4.
Between absentees and early votes, some 6.74 percent of all registered voters have cast ballots, officials report.
Early voting will continue through Saturday, Nov. 1.
Some locations will add Saturday hours as well on Oct. 25 and Nov. 1.
Voters must present both picture and signature identification. A Florida driver license or identification card will meet those requirements.

•Supervisor of Elections office, suite 110, West Pasco Government Center, 7530 Little Road, New Port Richey.
•Hudson Regional Library, 8012 Library Road.
•South Holiday Branch Library, 4649 Mile Stretch Drive.
