County Commission District 3

Published: October 22, 2008

In the race for County Commission District 3 the Republican incumbent, Ann Hildebrand, is facing off against Democrat Teresa "Terri" Conroy.

Having never run for political office until this election, Conroy has faced an uphill battle to unseat Hildebrand who is seeking her seventh, and she says final, four-year term.

Conroy, 49, of New Port Richey, is a likeable individual who cares about her community.

She plans to bring increased planning to the board if elected.

Conroy, a former permitting supervisor for Lexington Homes, is publishing an online periodical called bayareatradewinds.

With the slowdown in the economy, Conroy favors offering incentives to builders for "green" homes that conserve water and energy.

She does not favor raising impact fees, which she believes has hindered builders in the current market conditions.

However, Conroy lacks familiarity with the workings of county government.

In the current economic climate of lower tax revenues there is no substitute for experience.

Hildebrand, 70, a Gulf Harbors resident, is in a league of her own when it comes to knowledge of the workings of county government.

Hildebrand has served on the commission for 24 years and has been a part of many of the decisions that have helped shape Pasco County for the better.

Her involvement in numerous public and private boards, such as Tampa Bay Water, shows she truly cares about her community and has a desire to continue to serve.

She also was a champion for the Penny for Pasco sales tax, which has been used to help fund many worthwhile projects over the years.

Most notably, Hildebrand is working on a mass transit plan for the area as an officer of the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority.

In these tough economic times experience is needed more than ever. The Suncoast News recommends Ann Hildebrand for County Commission District 3.
