PORT RICHEY - The holidays are just around the corner and Salvation Army officials anticipate supplying many more Christmas food boxes for needy families this year.
Almost 400 food boxes were distributed last December, according to Jeanne Coulter, manager of the Center of Hope of Salvation Army West Pasco.
This December, Coulter expects 525 holiday food boxes will be delivered. Some families with children age 12 or younger also got some toys.
"There are so many people coming to us for food," Coulter said.
People can apply for the Salvation Army Christmas Assistance program starting next Monday, Oct. 27. The deadline for applications will be Nov. 15.
Applicants must fill out a form at the Center of Hope at 8040 Washington St., Port Richey, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Applicants must supply identification, proof of income and proof of residency in Pasco.
A valid driver's license or state-issued ID card must be shown. Social Security cards for all members of a family must be shown.
Proof of income can come from the most current pay stub, HUD Housing/Section 8 contract or lease, a food stamps printout of the current year, government assistance such as Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, Social Security Disability or Aid to Families with Dependent Children, or proof of child support.
