Pumpkin Fest And Quarterly Shop 'N' Stroll Announced

NEW PORT RICHEY - Greater New Port Richey Main Street will hold a Pumpkin Fest and quarterly shop n' stroll next Saturday.

The daylong Oct. 25 event will include several attractions designed to delight everyone. It will take place from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. along Main Street and Grand Boulevard, in the heart of downtown.

Several items have been included in the shop 'n' stroll to attract families to the downtown district. Unlike previous events the majority of attractions will be held on the corner of Main Street and Grand Boulevard at the Pumpkin Patch and Cavalier Square, which is behind the Grand Restaurant. Pumpkins of all shapes and sizes will be available to purchase.

Numerous contests are slated including a pumpkin painting contest. Purchase a pumpkin at the Pumpkin Patch and paint it from 11 a.m - 3 p.m. at Cavalier Square

Paint supplies will be furnished with judging for the most creatively painted pumpkin to be held at 4 p.m. with a Pasco Camera Exchange $50 gift certificate as prize for the most creatively painted pumpkin. Pumpkins must be picked up at 4 p.m.

Makai Kayak and Kanoe will hold a costume contest. The judging will take place at 2 p.m., at the Pumpkin Patch. The contest's age divisions are 5 and younger, 6 - 12, 13 - 18 and 19 and older.

There will also be a Decorated Scarecrow Contest. The scarecrows contestants create will be displayed to lend a Halloween atmosphere to downtown. Scarecrows must be placed between 8:30 - 9:30 a.m., with the location assigned when at registration.

The Grand Prize winner will receive a $50 gift certificate from Karen's Gifts. First-, second- and third-place ribbons will be presented as well.

Would-be scarecrow decorators should register at Greater New Port Richey Main Street, 6231 Grand Boulevard. Deadline for registration is this Wednesday, Oct. 22.

Judging will be at 3 p.m. at Cavalier Square.

As with past events an old-fashioned horse drawn hayride from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and will take individuals from the downtown area east of Madison to the Market on Main and west to Sims Park

Arts and Crafters and vendors will line Main Street and Nebraska Avenue. Face painting by clowns at the Cavalier Square from noon until 2 p.m.

Progress Energy Art Gallery will play host to artists and photographers, displaying their original pieces along Grand Boulevard. Table reservations must be reserved by Wednesday, Oct. 22.

In addition, Gulf High Art Honor Society will be on hand to take individuals pictures with a monster from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Cost is $5 per picture with proceeds benefiting their organization.

The gallery will also host a wine tasting inside the gallery.

Florida Blood Services Blood Mobile will be on Grand Boulevard 4 - 9 p.m.

Downtown merchants will have a sidewalk sale and scavenger hunt for a $2 entrance fee. Registration will take place from 10 a.m. until noon at the Pumpkin Patch. A $200 cash prize will be awarded at 3 p.m., and second- and third-place finishers will each receive $25.
