DUNEDIN - Class 2A, District 12 Boys Golf Results

On a windy day at his home course, Dunedin senior Justin Foster was off to a horrible start – 5-over through his first six holes.

Falcons coach Rich Edmonds suddenly got nervous that his two-time defending Pinellas County champions would falter in the Class 2A, District 12 tournament. But Foster shot 5-under in his last 12 holes, including an eagle at the 502-yard par-5 15th, to lead Dunedin (302 strokes) to the district title and take individual medalist honors at the venerable Dunedin Country Club.

"I'm just relieved to get out of here with a win," said Edmonds, who was already thinking about the daunting task of facing Plant in next week's regional at Wentworth Golf Club.

East Lake (319) and Mitchell (321) also advanced to Region 4 play. Ridgewood's Jordan Padova (76) and Jeff Koos (78) qualified as individuals, as did Matt Cote from Palm Harbor University (75). But Kote's teammate and defending district medalist, Zach Sobel, shot 80 and was the most notable player that failed to advance.

The Mustangs were led by a 74 from third-place individual finisher Kenny Cavender and a 79 from Isaac Schaefer. But for the second week in a row, they relied on a clutch score from their No. 5 player, Sterling Bash. His 85, posted more than an hour after Ridgewood finished, knocked the Rams out of a key spot in a tournament for the second week in a row.

"He's my secret weapon," said Mustangs coach Rick Hyatt. "He's been doing it for the whole last half of the season,"

Dunedin's Travis Huston, son of PGA Tour pro John Huston, was second overall with a 73. Padova had an eagle at the 335-yard, par-4 12th hole, hitting a lob wedge from 75 yards directly into the hole on the fly. Koos, who had a triple bogey on his second hole, bounced back with three birdies on his front nine.
