HUDSON - Don Frasch of Hudson recently was promoted to the position of Commodore and elected by a unanimous vote as the new leader of United States Coast Guard Auxiliary District 7.
A standing-room-only crowd at a Jacksonville hotel ballroom erupted in a standing ovation for Frasch, Thomas A. Loughlin, a Pasco auxiliary public affairs officer, reported.
Frasch will be the senior officer of the 5,700-member District 7, which stretches from the North Carolina-South Carolina border south to the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
He will oversee auxiliary efforts in promoting boating safety, the various public education programs, patrols, and community affairs.
Frasch will coordinate with local, state and federal agencies involved in maritime safety homeland defense and port security.
With his wife of 46 years, Sandy, by his side, Frasch was joined by his daughter, Claudine Frasch of San Francisco, and his son, Air Force Maj. A.J. Frasch, who is based at Randolph Air Force Base, in San Antonio. His daughter, Allison Murray, of Baltimore, was not able to attend in person but sent her congratulations.
