'Hoop Shoot' Dec. 6

HOLIDAY - The Elks National Hoop Shoot Competition, a free throw contest, will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Holiday Recreation Complex, 2830 Gulf Trace Blvd.

Sponsored by the New Port Richey Elks Lodge 2284, the competition is broken into three categories for boys and girls ranging in age from 8-13. Contestants must have a birth certificate at registration, which begins at 11 a.m. Shots start to fly at 11:30.

Winners will advance to district competitions, followed by states, regionals and nationals. National champions will earn the right to have their names inscribed on a plaque at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.

Holiday tennis camps SHADY HILLS - Youth and adult tennis players looking to hone their skills for the New Year can attend Impact Tennis Training holiday camps next month at Quail Ridge Country Club, 12830 Shady Hills Road.

Sessions will be held 1 - 4 p.m. Dec. 22 - 24 and Dec. 29 - 31. Costs are $69 per day or $120 for both. Players may also pay by the hour for $11.

The camp director, Brent Wellman, is a USPTA certified instructor, former college coach and strength and conditioning specialist.
