NEW PORT RICHEY - State Sen. Mike Fasano has donated $40,000 in leftover campaign funds from the 2008 general election to numerous nonprofit agencies and charities.
Fasano, R- New Port Richey, had raised about $595,049 in monetary donations since April 2006, according to records of Florida Department of State Division of Elections.
For example, some of the excess funds went to the Good Samaritan Clinic to help the agency to hire a nurse practitioner. ARC of the Nature Coast will apply its share toward buying wheelchairs.
Other West Pasco community groups which got donations: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7845, Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Pasco, West Pasco Pregnancy Center, the Volunteer Way food bank, Schrader Elementary School Playground Fund and the Salvation Army, Be a Santa to a Senior Program, YMCA of the Suncoast, Bishop Larkin Catholic School, Heritage Lake Estates Civic Association and Community United Methodist Church.
"At the end of the election cycle I look forward to helping out those organizations in our community that spend so much time helping others," Senator Fasano said in a press release.
