NPR Farmer's Market Shifts To Railroad Square

NEW PORT RICHEY - Those who have gotten into the habit of including a little shopping al fresco to their Saturdays at the city's Downtown Farmer's Market, take note - the weekly event has relocated, starting today.

There's no need, however, to log onto MapQuest. The market, which has been held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays since its inception last April in Cavalaire Square, is moving literally a stone's throw away.

Henceforth, the Downtown Farmer's Market will set up in the soon-to-be completed first phase of Railroad Square, along Nebraska Avenue east of Grand Boulevard.

"The city did such a wonderful job beautifying Nebraska Avenue with Railroad Square, it just made sense to put it to use," said Judy DeBella Thomas, executive director of Greater New Port Richey Main Street, which hosts the weekly market. "Plus, it makes the Downtown Farmer's Market more visible from Grand Boulevard."

In addition to the regular vendors selling produce, live plants, herbs, teas and other items, this week's market will feature book signings by Adam Carozza, author of "Images of America: New Port Richey"; and Jim Rathbone, author of "There's a Pirate in the Family."

Also for those whose holiday shopping list includes readers, "Florida's Monuments and Memorials," which includes entries on two New Port Richey locations, will be available at the market.

Also, LifePoint Church will have a table for arts and crafts activities for kids, so they will be able to produce custom made Christmas gifts while their folks shop.

Along with added visibility, the move to Railroad Square gives the market room to grow. Vendor spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis, for a fee of $10. For more information visit www.nprmainstreet.com> or call 727-842-8066.
