Robbery victim dies

HUDSON - A 62-year-old woman who was the victim of a strong-arm robbery Wednesday died Thursday at a local hospital, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said.

Linda Rose Roma of Hudson was shopping at TJ Maxx, 12209 U.S. 19, at about 9 p.m. Wednesday when a man snatched her purse, deputies say. Roma fell to the ground and hit her head, Pasco County sheriff's spokesman Kevin Doll said in a statement.

The man is described as Hispanic, between 25-30 years old, with a thin build, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and between 160-170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue baseball cap and a gray-green shirt with blue jeans. The man left the scene in a champagne-colored 1990s' model Buick Regal. The driver of the car is described as a Hispanic female with long brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information can call Detective Lisa Schoneman at 1-800-854-2862, ext. 7473.

Holiday fisher charged

DUNEDIN - A Holiday man used an illegal gill net to catch 248 pounds of ladyfish Tuesday night, Pinellas County deputies say.

The Pinellas Sheriff's Office Marine Enforcement Unit arrested Marvin Rankin, 36.

Rankin's 25-foot skiff was in St. Joseph Sound, near the Dunedin Causeway, about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

It was being driven in circles without lights on, and deputies saw Rankin and another man removing a 450-foot net from the water, deputies say.

Deputies seized the boat, fish and net as evidence.

The Sheriff's Office sold the 248 pounds fish for $124 to Hernando Beach Seafood, in Tarpon Springs.

Rankin was charged with using an illegal net, improper net-marking requirements and improper carriage of prescribed nets in Florida waters.

His bail was set at $5,500. He has since been released from jail.
