NEW PORT RICHEY - Artist Tatyana Igumnova Hankinson, as someone who began life on the other side of the planet, has seen a bit of the world and it shows in her work.

"I use different mediums and styles to reflect the different places I have traveled," says Hankinson. A resident of South Tampa since 2002, Hankinson is a native of the former Soviet Union.

Hankinson will be featured in an exhibit titled "A Russian Artist's Journey's through a Vast Landscape" at the Pasco-Hernando Community College Art Gallery.

The exhibit will open Thursday, Nov. 13, with an artist's reception 3 - 7 p.m., and run through Dec. 15.

Hankinson developed her talent in oils, pastels, acrylics and watercolors. Her style leans toward Impressionism.

While most artists specialize in one particular medium she chooses one depending on her mood.

The exhibit of Hankinson's work will have about 50 pieces reflecting her travels to Colorado, New York as well as around Florida. The exhibit will also include a few black and white photographs.

"The collection will include landscapes, still lifes, abstracts and experimenting pieces," Hankinson commented.

A graduate of Kubyshev Art School in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, she majored in drawing and fine art. She relocated to the area after meeting Kris Hankinson on an Internet dating site and marrying him.

After relocating to the Tampa area she was motivated by her surroundings. She spent time focusing on the crumbling houses, with their chipped paint, sagging porches and boarded windows, she found there. Hankinson saw them as art.

"I see all these old houses; they just impress me so much. They're all different," she said.

The collection of work was a success for the artist and she quickly dove into the Tampa art scene. She joined Tampa Realistic Artists and soon became its vice president, a position she still holds.

The Hillsborough County arts organization was formed in 1956. It is dedicated to furthering the ideals and principals of fine art by providing services to artists. It maintains a permanent gallery in Tampa's trendy Hyde Park neighborhood to increase the public awareness of art.

"Disturbing the Peace", a twilight arts and entertainment series, will accompany the artist reception for Hankinson. The series is developed and presented by the PHCC Student Activities Office.

Open to the public the theme of the Nov. 13 will be "Casino Night," and will include games, prizes and snacks. It will be held at PHCC West Campus, just outside of the art gallery.

The PHCC Gallery is in the Alric C.T. Pottberg Library at PHCC West Campus, 10230 Ridge Road, New Port Richey. Regular viewing hours at the gallery are from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
